United Way’s mission is to change lives through the delivery of Education, Income and Health programs offered by community organizations like Helping Hands.  This multiyear funding will help Rockwall County Helping Hands lead to greater impact, better outcomes and measurable progress toward achieving our goals.  It will empower RCHH and United Way to better plan for long-term efforts with more stable funding patterns.  Our commitment to measurable outcomes makes it possible to impact lives in Rockwall County.

Rockwall County Helping Hands is proud to collaborate with United Way to make sure all Rockwall County residents have access to affordable healthcare and to provide emergency assistance for struggling families.  We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas for its longstanding support of our agency and for this generous allocation it has entrusted.

The Rockwall County Helping Hands offices and stores will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day.  We hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday weekend!

The sold-out crowd was razzled and dazzled led by mistress of ceremonies Alma Howard, along with her co-star Isiak Holiday , for the 3rd annual Helping Hands fashion show on May 3, at the Hilton Bella Harbor.

Stunning roaring 20’s fashions from the Helping Hands Centsible Thrift Stores were paraded down the runway by a bevy of beautiful local “flappers” and some very hip, well-dressed men. They modeled high fashions available at the Centsible stores at true bargain prices.

This year’s event included some top merchandise from The Boutique at Helping Hands – an area in the Williams Street store that showcases designer merchandise at slightly higher than thrift store prices – but still priced to sell.

All proceeds benefited Helping Hands, a non-profit agency that helps qualifying residents in crisis help with shelter and utility bills, food, gas, clothing and household items and basic healthcare for those without insurance.

(ROCKWALL ISD-May 6, 2013) Head Coach Rodney Webb and the Rockwall High School football teams are excited to announce a food drive to benefit Helping Hands of Rockwall County.

The boys will be going door-to-door collecting canned and boxed food donations on Wednesday, May 15 in the Rockwall High School attendance zone.

(ROCKWALL-May 7, 2013) Anna Hibbs, a sixth grader in Christine Roach’s class at Grace Hartman Elementary School, recently collected and delivered more than 700 pounds of canned goods, flour, sugar, oil, peanut butter, jelly, canned meats and Hamburger Helper to Rockwall County Helping Hands. 

“While researching on the internet, I learned that one out of every six people in the world are starving, and that made me sad,” said Anna. “For my sixth grade community service project, I decided to do what I can to help fill our local food pantry. I know that if we all work together, we can make a difference in others’ lives.”

Jeremy Shanks, manager at Brookshires in Rockwall, allowed Anna to set up a collection area in the store, where donors contributed to the cause. Anna also collected $385 in cash donations, which she used to purchase food items for the pantry.

“What Anna is doing makes a huge difference,” said Marsha Chapman, the food pantry manager. “In July and August our shelves are bare. Anna called ahead to ask what items we needed most, and then she delivered in a big way.”

Chapman added that every day at Helping Hands, she is visited by at least one or two people that have lost a job.

“Daily I speak to someone who has lost everything,” she said.

Anna and Tracie Hibbs unload more than 700 pounds of food donations.

The pantry sees about 20 clients per day, among them many senior citizens needing Boost and Ensure, she said.
