Development Specialist Position

BASE OF OPERATIONS: Rockwall, TX

JOB SUMMARY: Rockwall County Helping Hands (RCHH) is actively seeking a dynamic Development Specialist to join our team. Working closely with the Senior Director of Philanthropy, the Development Specialist will play a key role in advancing fund development, overseeing fundraising initiatives, and coordinating special events. Crafting informative communication materials will be integral to keep current and potential funders informed about our programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Marketing, Outreach, and Communication:
    • Develop and update agency collateral, including social media content, press releases, and program brochures.
    • Assist in creating, producing, and mailing fundraising appeal letters and special announcements.
    • Craft monthly newsletters for each department and events.
    • Produce and edit newsletters, gather stories and photos, proofread, and manage printing.
    • Update presentation and public relations material, including brochures and PowerPoint presentations.
    • Coordinate and edit the fundraising page on the website; ensure regular updates.
    • Prepare occasional news releases and press kits.
  • Assist in Identifying and Cultivating Giving Programs:
    • Engage with small, medium, and large individual donors as part of an annual campaign.
    • Prioritize prospects, document all contacts, and track progress.
    • Coordinate efforts to increase business and civic group giving; track and document progress.
  • Fundraising Event Support:
    • Maintain guest lists, gather and prepare registration materials, and perform other duties as assigned for fundraising events.
  • Database Management and Reporting:
    • Process donations and prepare acknowledgment letters and other correspondence.
    • Generate fundraising reports and other database reports as needed.
    • Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate foundation and individual donors.
  • Adaptability and Additional Responsibilities:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Philanthropy.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience required.

Experience:

  • 2 – 4 years of Development/Fundraising experience preferred.
  • Exemplary planning and time management skills.
  • Self-starter who enjoys new challenges and adapts well to changing priorities.

Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Skilled in Canva and Constant Contact.
  • Experience with a CRM or non-profit database system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse stakeholders.
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong strategic planning skills.
  • Creativity, resourcefulness, detail orientation, flexibility, positive attitude, tact, and good judgment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, squatting, kneeling.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as tables and chairs.
  • Lifting of office materials (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Moderate independent travel by private auto required.

Other Information:

  • Position involves some evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and present in a positive, professional manner at all times.
  • Travel may occasionally be required for educational or business purposes.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of liability insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Expected participation in professional development activities.
